This set of 24 postcards, titled The Heroes of Gravelotte (“Den Helden von Gravelotte”), depicts monuments of the Franco-Prussian War. The Battle of Gravelotte on 18 August 1870 was the largest battle of the Franco-Prussian War.

The book is a leporello, with the pages folded accordion-style, adding to the unique and collectible design. The postcards include captions in both French and German. The book and postcards were published by W. Grumer, the war grave keeper (“kriegergräberwärter”) of Gravelotte.
