How to Grow Piper nigrum Black Pepper Peppercorn seeds:
Piper nigrum thrives in slightly acidic to neutral soil types and grows best in a humid or moist environment. If you're growing them indoors, consider planting them in a hanging pot in a partially shaded area of your sunroom or in a pot near a window. If grown outdoors, prop the leaves up by allowing them to either grow up a tree, grow them up a winding coil, a fence or a structure of some sort in order to enjoy a larger peppercorn harvest and provide some form of air flow for the leaves.
Germination Procedure: Soak seeds in cup of water for 24 hrs before planting. Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep into moist, warm soil. Plant seeds an inch apart. Water often. Seeds are hard to sprout without the softening effect of the water and consistently warm soil. Germination time is 45 days for most of the seeds. Even still, some won't sprout at this time. Continue the same treatment until enough seeds have germinated to your liking. Some simply remain dormant longer.
