The passion and the humor, the religious fervor and the strife for individualism is vividly portrayed in the painting of Spain. This volume reproduces the drawings of the great Spanish masters Velazquez, Murillo, el Greco, Ribera, Zurbaran, Goya and others too numerous to be mentioned in this space. The preliminary sketches and drawings of these masters nonetheless reveal these most  characteristic traits of the soul of Spain. With very few exceptions the Spanish painters were not given to the minute exercise of drawing as a means of annoting the inception of their inspiration. This makes the comparatively small production of existing Spanish drawings all the more valuable and interesting as a means of study and admire the various schools and techniques that produced some of the greatest talents in the history of painting.
