Sumac leaf – Tetra, washes for wounds and hemorrhoids, Cotinus coggygria Scop.

Sumac, also known as Tetra, is one of the most well-known herbs in Bulgaria. The plant is often used in traditional medicine where it is considered an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anti-hemorrhagic agent for use in wound healing.

In connection with the high content of tannins and essential oils, the herb sumac is used as an astringent and anti-inflammatory agent for the treatment of dermatitis, burns, frostbite, gingivitis, inflammation of the female genitalia.

Folk medicine uses sumac for sweating of the feet, purulent wounds, boils, hair loss, joint swelling, hemorrhoids. Sumac is a wonderful natural remedy for acute and chronic inflammation of the oral cavity (periodontal disease, bad breath, canker sores, stomatitis, pyorrhea, inflammation of the gums, etc.).

For inflamed gums, a relatively simple but effective recipe is used: equal parts of the herbs sumac and chamomile are mixed with bicarbonate of soda /1 teaspoon/, after which the mixture is dissolved in 1 liter of water. Put it on low heat to boil for about 5 minutes. After straining, the mixture is used to rinse the gums.

Infusion: 50 g of herb in 500 ml of boiling water. It is applied only externally for washes, gargles, compresses, paws, etc.

The herb sumac should not be used for internal treatment. It can be used to rinse the mouth and gums, but not for drinking.
