Rev. Louis M. Massanet
Naples, FL
Rev. Louis M. Massanet was called by God to his eternal life on Thursday evening, April 16, 2009. Father Massanet was born on June 13, 1933. His father, William was serving in the United States Army. His mother, Gumeranda Castello de Massanet cared for their family.
At a very early age Louis entered religious life as a friar in the Capuchin Order serving as a cook for the community. A short while later he accepted the challenge to develop his leadership skills. His native creative eye led him to refine his artistic ability leading him to paint icons following the Greek and Russian tradition.
In 1975 Father Massanet returned to religious life again in the Capuchin Order. As a friar he served in Brooklyn, NY and then in Manchester, NH. In that city he served at the Mount Carmel Nursing Home as well as the geriatric division of the Veterans Hospital.
The Bishop of Bani, Dominican Republic, Monsenor Priamo Tejeda, invited Father Massanet to co-found a new congregation of brothers whose ministry would be evangelization of the poor. It was during this time that same bishop called Louis to ordination into the priesthood.
Father Massanet's physical health soon began to deteriorate and hence he came to Naples serving as a parochial vicar of St. Ann Parish, as pastor of Our Lady Queen of Heaven in LaBelle and recently as a retired priest at St. William Church. His creativity inspired many people in the various retreats and days of recollection.
