Rhinathiol® is a syrup, containing carbocisteine 100 mg and promethazine HCl 2.5 mg per each 5 ml of syrup.
It is commonly used for alleviation of unproductive and irritative coughs in adults and children over 2 years, particularly when coughing occurs at night.
Rhinathiol Promethazine Syrup works by reducing the viscosity of sputum; blocking histamines or nitrogenous compounds.
Dosage / Direction for Use:
Adults:
- 3 to 4 spoons (15 ml to 20 ml) three times a day.
Children:
- 2-5 years of age ½ to 1 spoon (2.5 ml to 5 ml) four times a day.
- 6-12 years of age 1½ to 2½ spoons (7.5 ml to 12.5 ml) three times a day.
- 12 -15 years of age 2½ to 3 spoons (12.5 ml to 15 ml) three times a day.
Notes:
- If an infant develops a cough, consult the doctor.
- Treatment must be short (a few days) and only at times when coughing occurs.
- If a dose is missed, go back to the regular dosing schedule. However, treatment must be only at times when coughing occurs. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose missed.
