lavender needs dry conditions that mimic the Mediterranean to the south of France. if you live in a moist-humid place like Florida, they definitely will not grow. they prefer a hot, dry, rocky almost desert like environment. that said, they do great here in Seattle as long as they get very good drainage.
lavender is great for cut flowers-dried flowers, they are bee and butterfly friendly and wonderfully fragrant'. they are great for mass plantings, extended bloom time, (more than four weeks) multiplies/naturalizes, evergreen, low Maintenace, pretty foliage, deer and rabbit resistant and a great mosquito repellant.   a must have.
