Depicting a peacock on a floral background

Underglaze Marked on underside "Jerusalem" with 

the typical signature of  Balian

Diameter 19 cm or 7 1/2”

Hand-made by the famous Jerusalem Armenian 

artists and potters family Karakashian-Balian

Bringing traditional Ottoman Iznik style ceramic artwork to Jerusalem from Kutahya artisans, the Karakashian Balian partership lasted for over 40 years. 

This plate was ostensibly made in the 1950s after the dismantling of the joint workshop of the two Armenian artist families Karakashian and Balian.

Such underglaze marked plates are extremely rare!

Two chips on the rim – one barely noticeable from above, 

and the other quite noticeable and has been over-painted for some reason that evades me

– see photos –

 Has some "crazing" related to glazing process but  doesn’t detract from its overall beauty
