ABOUT: Zagat survey called Ramos House in San Juan Capistrano, one of the best food restaurant in Orange County and possibly, the best breakfast in the United States. 45 recipes for breakfast and lunch, with color photos and illustrations. INTRODUCTION Have you ever hosted a dinner party? The kind where you clean the house all week, pull your hair out over the menu, run all over town searching for heirloom tomatoes in the middle of winter, lobsters in June, etc, etc. Then, on the big night, just when you think you've covered every detail, all of your friends show up with all of their friends, a couple of their kids and one guy nobody knows. Some early, some late, some on special diets and some on so many antipsychotic medications you'd swear they arrived in a spaceship. Anyhow, I digress: valet park the spaceship and get back to work. One must stay focused in the heat of battle. You have no choice but to make do, so you send someone to the store for more wine and push a couple tables together. So what if total strangers are practically sitting on each others' laps? It makes for great conversation - conversation that, by the way, helps to disguise the fact that you're behind schedule. But that's to be expected when your stove is on fire and your sink is backed up. You turn up the music to cover the clatter, stretch the soup with half 'n' half and disguise your flaws with a bit of parsley. All right, that's as good as it's going to get. You clean yourself up; get the food to the table and, to your amazement, nobody's bothered. In fact, they love it. Compliments are flying, phone numbers are being swapped, and secret recipes are being divulged. Before you know it, bread has been broken and new friendships have been made. Belts are loose, the music's low and some creepy couple's making out in the corner. Burp, you're done.

As you walk your friends to the door, you're tired, but proud. And where earlier you swore you would never host another party, you stack your dirty dishes and start planning your next. This, in essence, is my life and I love it. Thanks for coming.
