The Sugar Lace II pea is a semi-leafless pea variety that grows to about 30 inch tall and is self-supporting. The pods can be 3 inches long, stringless,sweet, and crisp.The sweet,plump pods are delicious when eaten fresh,steamed, or stir-fried. It is resistant to Powdery Mildew,Bean Leaf Roll Virus,and Pea Enation Mosaic Virus.
Sowing
This variety sets well in either spring or fall.Because Peas thrive in cool weather and do not transplant well.Seeds should be planted outside 4-6 weeks before the last frost or grow in 40-75 degrees F. Plant pea seed 2 inches apart and 2 inches deep in light soil and full sun.Plant in double row 6-8 inches apart to allow for a trellis.
Growing
Before they bloom,pea plants need to be kept moist but not wet. After blooming slightly increase the watering.Remove weeds carefully to avoid disturbing the plants.Mulch may be helpful to conserve moisture and control weeds.
Harvesting
Mature in about 70 days. Snap peas taste best when harvested as soon as both the pod and the peas are filled out, test their ripeness by breaking them in two. If they snap cleanly, they are ready to harvest. Super Sugar Snap peas give an extremely heavy yield and freeze well.
