PLANTERS JUMBO
MELON SEEDS
Cultivation Guide: Planters Jumbo Melon
1. Planting Seeds:
- Start indoors: Begin by planting seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last expected frost.
- Use a seed starting tray with a good quality seed starting mix.
- Plant the seeds about 1/2 inch deep and cover them lightly with soil.
- Keep the soil moist and warm (around 70°F - 85°F) until germination occurs, usually within 7-10 days.
- Once the seedlings have developed a couple of true leaves, transplant them into larger containers or outdoor garden beds.
2. Outdoor Planting:
- Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil for planting your jumbo melon seedlings.
- Make sure to space the plants about 3-4 feet apart to allow for sufficient growth.
3. Watering and Fertilizing:
- Water the plants regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
- Apply a balanced organic fertilizer every 3-4 weeks to promote healthy growth.
4. Pruning and Trellising:
- Prune the melon plants by removing any weak or diseased branches to maintain good air circulation and focus energy on fruit production.
- Consider using trellis or stakes to support the melon vines and keep the fruit off the ground.
5. Harvesting:
- Observe the melon for signs of maturity, such as uniform color, a slight softening of the blossom end, and a fragrant aroma.
- Harvest by cutting the stem about 1 inch above the fruit with a sharp knife or pruning shears.
