Gio Ponti (1891-1979) was trained as an architect but was also a poet, a painter, a designer of exhibitions, glass, lightning and of course furniture. He is perhaps most known for being one of the architects of the Pirelli tower in Milan, at one time the tallest building in Europe. But above all, Ponti was responsible for the renewal of Italian architect and decorative arts during the 20th century.
