Message to the Shepherds
is the title of the 1948 Rosenthal Christmas Plate, the 39th plate in the Rosenthal Traditional Christmas series (1910-1974). This 1948 plate features an angel appearing before 3 shepherds in a field surrounded by sheep. The Christmas Star shines it light down onto the scene.
The inscription on the front of the plate reads WEIHNACHTEN (Christmas) 1948. Marked on the back: VERKUNDIGUNG AN DIE HIRTEN (Annunciation or Message to the Shepherds); ENTWURF (Artwork): R. Hoffman; ROSENTHAL KUNSTABTEILUNG (Art Department), SELB GERMANY Pierced foot for hanging wire on back. Diameter approximately 8.5 inches (22 cm).
