Drama starring Sean Penn and Nicholas Cage, set in the early years of World War 2. Penn is Henry 'Hopper' Nash, a small-town teenager weeks away from being shipped overseas to fight in the war. In the meantime he falls for new-to-town Caddie Winger (Elizabeth McGovern), whom he believes to be from a wealthy family. Meanwhile, Hopper's friend Nicky (Nicolas Cage) has got himself into trouble: his girlfriend Sally (Suzanne Adkinson) is pregnant, and he can't afford to pay for her to have an abortion. The boys' friendship is tested when Nicky persuades Hopper to ask his new girlfriend for the money he needs to get Sally (and himself) out of this self-imposed predicament.
