Four films starring the legendary screen goddess Marilyn Monroe. In 'Ladies of the Chorus' (1948), aspiring burlesque artist Peggy Martin (Monroe) gets her chance of stardom when she is taken out of the chorus line and becomes a huge hit. Before long, Peggy is being romanced by a wealthy bachelor, who wants her to give up the stage and move in society circles. Peggy's mother, Mae, is not impressed, and warns her daughter that star-crossed romances seldom last for long. In 'Some Like It Hot' (1959), unemployed musicians Joe (Tony Curtis) and Jerry (Jack Lemmon) go on the run after witnessing the St Valentine's Day Massacre. Pursued by gangsters, the duo are forced to disguise themselves as women and join Sweet Sue's all-girl band on the next train for Florida. Joe is attracted to Sugar Kane (Monroe), the band's singer, while Jerry finds himself pursued enthusiastically by millionaire Osgood E. Fielding III (Joe E. Brown). Comic complications ensue. In 'The Misfits' (1961), a sensitive young woman (Monroe), in Reno to obtain a divorce, takes up with three cowboy drifters (Clark Gable, Montgomery Clift and Eli Wallach), in town for the rodeo, and a long-time divorcee (Thelma Ritter). She and Gable fall in love but their relationship is compromised when the men reveal their plan to catch mustangs and sell them as dog food. In 'Hometown Story' (1951), Blake Washburn (Jeffrey Lynn) is a local politician embittered when he fails to get re-elected and who blames corporate interests for his fall from grace. He sets about getting his revenge via a job writing a column in his uncle's newspaper, exposing the undemocratic machinations of big business. But when his sister Iris (Monroe) is trapped underground in a cave-in, it is one of the big businesses he has railed against that comes to her aid, throwing him into a moral dilemma. Also included are two documentaries about Marilyn, 'Marilyn Monroe at the Movies', which includes a detailed filmography and newsreel footage, and 'Portrait of a Legend', looking at her turbulent private life.
