This unique gay-themed East German film, made just before the wall came down, won the Silver Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival in 1990. It offers a bleak portrayal of a respected schoolteacher who leads a double life. Phillip makes a stab at heterosexuality with a female colleague but instead finds one night of happiness in the arms of another young man before they are separated.
