Fabulous tropical showy plant that resembles orchids. Perennial easy to grow in shade.  Arching un-branched stems of 2-3 feet,  LOW MAINTENANCE Toad-lilies are unique but easy perennials for growing in shady areas. Leafy, arching stems produce a summer and fall display of unique star-shaped flowers, often marked with spots of dark purple. They deserve a special place where they can be appreciated up close, like beside a patio, in a container planter or at the edge of a bed. This species features white to pale lilac flowers, spotted with dark purple, over green foliage. Beautiful in the garden, but also useful for cutting. Clumps may be easily divided every 3 to 4 years in early spring. Pinching in mid summer will produce a more compact flowering clump.  Borders, woodland gardens, shade gardens or naturalized areas. Plant in areas where they can be easily observed at close range, because the beauty and detail of the small flowers becomes lost at a distance. They have no serious pest problems and are low maintenance. May take longer to germinate that many seeds.
