Vintage Staffordshire Style Hand Painted Porcelain Hunter with Horse & Dogs Spill Bud Vase
This vintage reproduction of a "spill vase" has three openings in the top. A spill vase was originally intended to hold tapers or "spills", which are thin wooden sticks or tightly curled strands of paper used to carry flame from a fire to a combustible item, such as a candle or tobacco pipe. Today, we can use it as a bud vase or as fabulous home decor!
This lovely vase has so much to look at! It depicts an 18th century hunt scene. There is a gentleman in top hat with his horse, hunting dogs, and game. The man wears a dark blue coat and carries a game rabbit. His faithful horse stands to his left with game across the saddle. Both man and horse stand in front of a green tree with two hunting dogs at the man's feet. The tree's branches are hollow so as to act as a vase for spills (of for single stem flowers).
While this is not the original Staffordshire piece, it is a fine reproduction, with great attention to detail.
It measures approx. 7" tall x 6.5" W x 3.25" D
It is in VERY GOOD CONDITION ~ No nicks, chips, cracks, flea bites, or damage.
This vase is a must-have for collectors of vintage pottery and lovers of English countryside aesthetics.
