In this sequel to The Seekers, the threats of concentration camps and the Seekers are over. There is another danger, though, and it may be worse. Roaming bands of rogue men, called marauders, kill and destroy other survivor groups. Not only do Peter and the other teens need to protect themselves, they need to guard their farmstead and their animals. When the Seekers raided the farmstead, they took or destroyed most of the winter food supply. With Helen captured, Peter has to figure out how to feed his struggling family group. Through all of the worry, Peter has a plan. Maybe he and Thea should travel to Corner to salvage food and clothing. Thea won’t go; her fears are too great. What would happen if the marauders caught them? What will Peter and his family group do? Where will they get supplies for winter for themselves and their friends? How will Peter and the others defend themselves from the marauders?
