When Augusta National and Masters Tournament co-Founder Bobby Jones first passed under the trees on the dirt road that would later be famously named Magnolia Lane, he was taken with the experience. The beauty and captivating nature of Magnolia Lane continues to delight all who pass beneath this wonderful canopy of magnolia trees.
Even before Bobby Jones stepped foot on the property, magnolia trees were standing stoically guiding everyone along. The large trees that have helped form a tunnel to the Clubhouse were planted in the 1850s by the Berckmans family who owned the land where Augusta National now resides.
Magnolia Lane wasn’t always like it is now. Going back more than 100 years, Magnolia Lane was a simple dirt path, and in 1947 the 330-yard road was paved for the first time. Even when it changed, the entryway continued to provoke the same emotional response for all who passed through it.
