Diecast Metal Model Airplane 1932 Northrop Gamma 2A Wings of Texaco


Produce for Kit Brothers Inc. by Ertl Company Inc. stock number B223UO


This original Gamma created for Frank Hawks, aviation department head for Texaco, was delivered to Texaco in December 1932. It was equipped with a right 14 cylinder engine that produced 785 hp. Top speed was approximately 223 mph and because of the efficient wing and flat design, it could land at Aamir 65 mph. The range a cruising speed was 2500 miles, allowing nonstop Coast to Coast flight capability. On June 2, 1933 Frank Hawks flew nonstop from Los Angeles to New York in 13 hours and 27 minutes breaking his old record.
