The GE clutch is an OEM replacement part responsible for engaging and disengaging the transmission during the wash and spin cycles. The clutch is located between the motor and the transmission of the washing machine. When the washer is in the agitate mode, the clutch engages the transmission, allowing the agitator to move back and forth to wash the clothes. When the washer enters the spin cycle, the clutch disengages the transmission, allowing it to spin freely and remove excess water from the clothes.

This part fixes the following symptoms:

• Excessive noise or vibration during the wash cycle
• The washer not agitating or spinning properly
• Clothes remaining wet after the spin cycle
• The washer's agitator not moving during the wash cycle
• The washer producing a burning smell during operation
• Difficulty in shifting between different wash cycles

The GE clutch can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.
