Description:
These two 3D topographical models demonstrate the differences between the near and far side of Earth's Moon. They are built from data taken by NASA from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter which began orbiting the moon on June 23, 2009. The near side is smoother due to large lava flows that filled in many craters billions of years ago. These 3D Topographical maps cover an area 400km x 400km. 1cm = 30km.
