Description: No Stock Photos! We photograph every item. light edge wear; Autumn is approaching, so Big Bou the caribou is preparing to lead his herd to lower ground. As a result of a late summer fire, several small animals have taken refuge with Big Bou's herd. They have depended on his protection and advice. How can they survive on their own? Big Bou assures them that they will be fine in their natural habitat as he leaves them near Peaceful Pond. The small animals hold a meeting and agree that they must look and act like Big Bou. They all find twigs, which they attach to their heads like antlers. Then they make some unpleasant discoveries. The snowshoe hare gets entangled in a tree; the twigs prevent the snowy owl from flying high; and the bighorn sheep gets stuck between two large boulders. Big Bou has been observing from nearby. He decides it is time to step in and remind the animals of their own strengths. The hare can run fast over snow. The owl can soar high and see far. The sheep can climb the highest slopes and the duck can swim swiftly. Each can contribute a unique talent to the well-being of all. The caribou herd leaves for the winter. They return when the snow starts melting. All the animals rejoice in the signs of new life. Full-color illustrations feature expressive animals with exaggerated characteristics. An enjoyable, although obviously didactic, story for young children.
