THIS WEEK: our cover picture is reproduced from a painting by Edouard Manet entitled Ballet Espagnol, now in the collection of the Phillips Gallery in Washington, D.C., by whose courtesy it is reprinted. The first publication to publish a memoir by Eva Gauthier, we have asked the renowned concert singer to describe her varied associations with opera, rather than the better known details of her work in interpreting the modern song repertory. We are glad to announce the cities and dates of the approaching Metropolitan tour, together with forthcoming engagements in Philadelphia and Baltimore and directions as to how to obtain detailed information on tickets. We are also happy to publish, as is our annual custom, the list of stations over which the Metropolitan broadcasts should be heard. In the event of imperfect reception or competing programs we urge our readers to address themselves to their local stations rather than the American Broadcasting system, The Texas Company or The Metropolitan Opera Guild.
