THIS WEEK: Our cover picture is a conception of Parsifal by the famous French painter, Odilon Redon (1840-1916). A little known chapter in Wagner's life dealing with his completion of Parsifal is offered by Vittorio Capodarso, who relates the memories of the elderly Duchess of Arenella. As a young girl the Duchess was present when Wagner first played the finished score at the piano. We conclude Tibor Kozma's analytic series of articles on the instruments of the operatic orchestra with a description of the orchestral timbres originated by Wagner in his final stage work.

Issued weekly during the Opera Season and fortnightly in the Spring and Fall by THE METROPOLITAN OPERA GUILD 654 MADISON AVENUE, NEW YORK, N. Y.
