Maryland is a fast-growing automotive market, standing 23d among the nation's 50 in motor vehicle registrations. It has 1.454 million vehicles, 1.357 million of them cars. licensed to drive them are 1.639 million drivers, who burn 1.260 billion gal. of gasoline a year, covering Maryland's 25,118 miles of surfaced highway.
The state has 311 new car dealers, and 1,355 independent repairshops, in addition to 2,677 gasoline stations. Of the repairshops in the state, 909 do general service work, while 169 of them specialize on body work.
