If an item is noted Sterling Silver, or .925 Silver it means it is composed genuine .925 Sterling Silver. It is not plated. If the item is sterling silver plated only, it will be clearly mentioned.
Sterling silver (.925 or 92.5% pure silver) may show light tarnish from exposure to air. Tarnish is not soil or a defect, but is a naturally occurring oxidation process that takes place when silver is exposed to air. Clean your sterling gently with any of the well-known silver cleaning cloths but we do not recommend dips.
Some modern sterling silver jewelry may have the added benefit of being tarnish-resistant. Although no 925 sterling silver will be completely tarnish-free, a rhodium finish does make the sterling more tarnish-resistant. Rhodium is a part of the platinum family of metals. A rhodium finish is used over sterling silver to toughen it up and add resistance against daily wear and tear. It also adds a high-quality, long-lasting, tarnish-resistant shine. When it is used as a finish over sterling silver, the sterling must first be coated with nickel, making the 925 sterling silver piece slightly magnetic. It is still 92.5% sterling silver. (.925)
CONDITION CLASSIFICATION GUIDELINES
Due to the inherent nature of vintage and antique items, and pre-owned or new old store stock removed from shelves, condition descriptions are subjective. We do our best to describe the condition of our items as carefully as possible and we post several photos of the actual item. Photos may be magnified to show details and we also include measurements for your review.
We do not attempt to clean, polish, repair or otherwise alter any of our old store stock, pre-owned, vintage or antique items. Vintage or antique jewelry may show a patina consistent with age. We sell these items as acquired, as is.
Age/era is an estimation but represented to the best of our knowledge based on provenance or acquisition time frame. Stones, gems or pearls may show naturally occurring variations in color, quality or inclusions. Natural stones may vary in shape and size.
NEW OLD STORE STOCK NOT SOLD - Item was purchased in liquidation upscale USA department stores. May have been overstock or never sold and removed from shelves due to age rotation. The packaging, display cards or boxes if, any may show shop wear and remnants of store labels/stickers
MINT - Like new. Highly unusual to see this classification as by very definition, store stock, antique and vintage jewelry has either been worn or handled in some way. Additionally, there is the natural process of time-wear (similar to shelf-wear).
EXCELLENT - Outstanding condition. The best grade you can reasonably expect for antique/vintage, or store stock jewelry
VERY GOOD - We place most of our vintage and antique items and jewelry in this category as most all antique, vintage pre-owned or store stock items have some signs of use consistent with age if even only visible under 10x magnification. If noted, it may have a small dent, ding, chip, light scuffing, yellowing, or plating loss. Any signs of wear would be minor compared to the overall integrity of the piece and would not detract from its beauty. More significant signs of wear on the back or inside of a piece may be included in this category.
GOOD - Perfectly usable, wearable and acceptable, but signs of use described above are more significant and readily visible. May be missing a stone or have a broken finding that can be replaced or repaired
FAIR - Wear is severe and will need significant restoration or may be used for parts or scrap.
SCRAP/RECYCLE - Good for some usable parts, stones, crystals, or findings for jewelry design, inspiration, up-cycling, re-cycling, crafting or scrap.
