This poster illustration is from the tomb of Pharoah Heqamaatre Rameses IV, found in The Valley of the Kings.

Music was important in Egypt. And instruments like these benets (harps) were decorated with gold and other precious materials.

The painting was drawn by early French explorer, Jean-François Champollion. It was one of a series created by Jean-François and his brother Jacques-Joseph, during an expedition to the area.  The brothers documented their discoveries in Monuments de l'Égypte et de la Nubie, published in 1835 by Didot Firmin, Paris.

Jean-François Champollion was the 18th century Egyptologist who deciphered the Rosetta Stone, making it  possible to read hieroglyphics.
