Royal Copenhagen Aluminia Faience (Fajance) Christmas plate featuring a large blue flower against a blue background. (If anyer can identify this flower, I would appreciate hearing from you!). The inscription reads WEIHNACHTEN 1917, Weihnachten being the German word for Christmas. This is the 14th plate in the series than ran from 1904 through 1938.
Designed by Christian Joachim. Approximately 6 OE inches (16 cm) in diameter. Pierced foot for hanging wire. Appropriately marked on the back, including the Aluminia trademark – a large stylized “A” crossed with three wavy lines. The fractional mark 1124/1004 on the back has the decoration number on top and the shape number on the bottom. Although all the plates in the series are basically the same size and shape, the design for each year is partially molded into the plate so each year has its own shape number. Book Value in 2004 (CHRISTMAS PLATES by Lars Christoffersen) was $100-$200.
VERY GOOD ANTIQUE CONDITION (no chips, cracks, or repairs) and FIRST QUALITY (no scratch through trademark). However there is some mild crazing (a network of tiny cracks in the surface glaze that do not go through the underlying ceramic body), most visible on the back, and almost unavoidable in faience (earthenware) products that are over 100 years old. Please view all photographs for a better understanding of condition.
