Potassium permanganate is a strong oxidizing agent and oxidizes everything it comes into contact with: pus, destroying bacteria (antiseptic activity), contaminated skin (cleansing and deodorizing properties), weeping eczema, clothing - i.e. the structure of almost all substances of organic origin changes . Solutions of various concentrations are prepared from potassium permanganate powder, used externally (for the strength of their effect and concentration, see point 3): for the treatment of infected wounds, ulcers, abscesses. For eczematous diseases and acute inflammation of the skin, especially with secondary infection. For skin deodorization. For fungal diseases such as athlete's foot. For skin inflammation caused by ivy (itching after skin contact with ivy).
Compound
Potassium permanganate powder (Kalii Permanganas).
Usage
A rinse solution, freshly prepared as an aqueous solution of potassium permanganate, is used externally. Depending on the need, the following percentage concentrations of potassium permanganate are prepared: a 0.1% solution is used to rinse wounds, ulcers and abscesses. For ulcers and abscesses, a solution of 0.1% is used for cleansing dressings and wet dressings. For eczematous diseases and acute inflammations of the skin, a solution of 0.025–0.1% is used for wet compresses or baths, especially for secondary infections. For deodorizing the skin, solution 1 %. For fungal diseases, such as “athlete's foot” - a 1% solution. In cases of inflammation caused by ivy (itching after contact of the skin with ivy) - a 1% solution. Potassium permanganate solutions should not be used in children under 12 years of age, since there is not enough information about the safety of their use.
