This is for a very rare contemporary piece by modern artist Kelani Abass of Lagos, Nigeria. This is from his iconic 'Scrap of Evidence' series titled 'Scrap of Evidence: Cifurian' signed, titled and dated 2018 on the reverse. The appearance of visible age to the art and the frame is inherent to the work. This in excellent original condition.

In 2009 Kelani Abass discovered a unique family record that would forever change the course of his artistic practice. It sparked the idea for "Scrap of Evidence" –a powerful mixed media series that combines archival photographs, paintings, and metallic letters and symbols sourced from his father’s old printing press.

For his three-dimensional works the artist uses old portrait photographs, often reproduced as small paintings, which he retrieves from the archives inherited from his father's publishing business. Metal typefaces and other elements from the world of printing are added to these compositions. The relationship to memory and the importance of the archive assumes another dimension in his graphic work, where he recreates some of the images by repeated imprints applied with an ink pad.

Among many other accolades, the works by Kelani Abass have been shown in The Museum of Modern Art(MOMA) and auctioned at Christie's and Sotheby's. This guy has been in it for a long time now, no overnight fads or hype. *Artist's history below.
