Taken during the 1940s during his enlistment in the U.S. Coast Guard Band as a Chief Petty Officer, this photograph was signed by Rudy Vallee in black ink thusly: "To 'Mac' - In appreciation of your genius! Rudy" and is hand-dated "6/8 '45. It is in very good+ condition as shown.

Hubert Prior Vallee (July 28, 1901 – July 3, 1986), known professionally as Rudy Vallee, was an American singer, saxophonist, bandleader, actor, and entertainer. He was the first male singer to rise from local radio broadcasts in New York City to national popularity as a "crooner". During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard to help direct the 11th district Coast Guard band as a Chief Petty Officer. He was promoted to Lieutenant and led the 40 piece band to great success. In 1944, he was placed on the inactive list and returned to radio.
