Japanese Geisha with Shamisen Art Poster Print

This print of a Japanese woman in a kimono is called The Geisha Itsutomi, and the original woodcut was by Japanese artist, Hosoda Eishi (1756-1829).

She's wearing a traditional kimono and lying on the ground behind her is a three-stringed shamisen, a popular Japanese musical instrument, based on the Chinese sanxian - a style of lute. It is played with a plectrum called a bachi.

PS:

Did you know that vintage art was never created to fit our modern frame sizes?  Most original work is much thinner, longer, or an odd size that won't fit a standard frame.

Sadly, many print suppliers crop vintage art to make it fit today's sizes, but this risks losing beautiful parts of the artwork.

I believe that you should be able to view the old artwork in its full glory.  And so you'll find many of the prints here have non-standard white borders.

These allow you to crop the print to the size you want.  Or frame it as it is in a glass clipframe, or with a contrasting matt that brings the artwork to life.

Your choice of frame makes a world of difference to your artwork too.  Enjoy your print.
