The Lone Wolf, nickname of Louis Joseph Vance's character Michael Lanyard--a jewel thief (super crook) turned gentleman private detective in a series of eight novels. Many films were based on and inspired by the novels including this one which was filmed in 1927.
This is the third novel in the series featuring Michael Lanyard, a well-known criminal to the police and underworld as the Lone Wolf because he always works alone. In this story while in France Michael Lanyard becomes involved in the loss of the famous Mountalais jewels which he attempts to recover for Eve de Mountalais.
