Here is a very rare vintage 14K gold Ballantine's Export Light Beer Keglined Flat Top Beer Can charm that was crafted by Sloan & Company jewelers out of Newark, NJ back in the late 1930s. This charm is intricately detailed and is very nicely enameled. The enamel is all 100% original. I would think that this charm may have been crafted for the owner of the brewery or for his wife back in the day. Possibly a one of a kind, as this is the only one that I have ever seen. Sloan & Company jewelers, as well as Ballantine & Sons brewery were both located in Newark NJ. After 1939, Ballantine's removed the "s" from their brand name and became Ballantine as well as P Ballantine & Sons. This genuine 14K gold Sloan & Co. charm will make a wonderful addition to a charm bracelet or collection, as well as a breweriana and Ballantine beer enthusiast's collection!

The first beer can was introduced shortly before the repeal of the prohibition in 1933. If I remember correctly, it was made by the Krueger Brewing Co. out of Newark NJ. The American Can Co. designed a “keglined” can made out of heavy gauged steel and an inner liner that prevented the transfer of metallic tastes to the beer.
