THE COVER: The Cle Elum River in central Washing- ton takes its name from the Indian for "swift water." But here and there it widens out into lakes. Such spots draw fishermen from miles around -- including, in years past, cover artist JOHN CLYMER, who grew up in nearby Ellensburg. Even in May, as avalanche lilies push up through receding snows, anglers make tracks for the trout in the lake shown on our cover. Its name? Fish Lake, naturally.
