How to Grow:

Choose a spot in your garden that receives full sun and has well-draining soil. Phacelia tanacetifolia cannot thrive in shady conditions or in soil that allows water to collect.

Clear the area of any weeds. Wear gardening gloves to pull the weeds to avoid irritation, which can be caused by many types of weeds.

Loosen the soil with a tiller to prepare it for planting. Use a shovel if you don't have a tiller.

Spread a layer of topsoil on the area where you are going to plant your Phacelia tanacetifolia seeds. Make your topsoil layer about 1/2 inch thick.

Sow the seeds a 1/4 inch deep and space them between 4 and 8 inches apart. October is one option for planting Phacelia tanacetifolia, but the seeds can be planted as late as December and still yield sprouts. If you wait until spring to plant your seeds, sow them as soon as the danger of the last frost has passed, which usually occurs in mid-March.

Water the seeds using a garden hose with a sprayer attachment. Use gentle pressure to avoid disrupting and moving the seeds.

Water the seeds once or twice each week to encourage growth. The seeds will germinate in 12 to 30 days and the ground should stay damp while you wait for them to sprout.
