Indoor sowing:
- Sow seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost date.
- Plant 2-3 seeds in a small container or cell, 1/4 inch deep.
- Keep the soil moist and at a temperature of 60-70°F until germination, which usually takes 7-14 days.
- Once the seedlings have their first set of true leaves, thin to one seedling per container.
Outdoor sowing:
- Sow seeds directly in the garden 2-4 weeks before the last expected frost date, or as soon as the soil can be worked.
- Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep and 2-3 inches apart in rows spaced 12-18 inches apart.
- Keep the soil moist until germination, which usually takes 7-14 days.
- Once the seedlings have their first set of true leaves, thin to one seedling every 6-12 inches.
Growing:
- Pak choi prefers partial shade and well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter.
- Water regularly, especially during dry periods.
- Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer every 3-4 weeks.
- Harvest the outer leaves when they are large enough, or wait until the heads are fully formed.
