Calendula, a flowering plant also known as Calendula, can be taken as a tea or used as an ingredient in various herbal formulations.

While tea is made by steeping the flowers in boiling water, the extract is extracted from both the flowers and the leaves.

Calendula extract possesses several powerful antioxidants, including triterpenes, flavonoids, polyphenols, and carotenoids.

Calendula preparations are often used as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent. Studies have found that taking the drug internally has a choleretic effect (increases the formation and outflow of bile juice), lowers blood pressure, calms the central nervous system and improves sleep. This flower also has astringent, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, diaphoretic, disinfectant and blood-purifying properties.

Embedded in oils, salves and tinctures, it can be used topically to treat wounds and ulcers. The herb has a proven antimicrobial effect and the ability to accelerate wound healing.

Calendula has long been used as a detoxifying herb and helps treat the underlying causes of conditions characterized by high fever and infection. The herb is effective for cleansing the liver and gall bladder.

Calendula's anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties can support oral health by fighting gingivitis and microbial growth.

How to use Calendula petals

For making tea, baths, inhalations, poultices or various types of extracts: 2 tbsp. of the calendula herb are brewed with 500 ml. boiling water for 5 min., tightly covered. Strain. Take 150 ml three times before or after meals.

The same extract can be used for gargling, dousing or poultices.

An ointment is prepared by boiling the flowers of the marigold herb in a water bath, covered with fat, for example olive oil. The proportion is, the amount of colors, should be covered 1/3 with fat. Gradually, the colors soften and sink completely into fat. Let them boil for 10 minutes and remain covered until they cool. Strain through cheesecloth, squeeze. The resulting amount of calendula oil extract is heated in a water bath with a lump of wax. If you have 100 ml of fat, add wax the size of half a walnut. When it cools, the consistency of an ointment is obtained.
