This listing is for the interesting original handwritten document Handwritten letter from the Army of Mississippi in 1862 from the Adjutant and Inspector General about exemptions and writing to the President. It is on tissue thin paper and the ink is brown.

This is a “retained copy.”  It was a kind of forerunner to carbon copies. As the original document was written, a copy was simultaneously made on thin paper. The Mississippians seemed particularly fond of the practice during the early war period. Retained copies are authentic Civil War documents.

Excellent original early family and/or town genealogy, history, antique, collectible heirloom and/or ephemera.
