1969C Banuelos / Shultz $5 FRN - GUTTER FOLD - ERROR / FIDO

This is of course a one of a kind error. The bill is crisp but with a  3-4mm unprinted blank 15 degree gutter fold error extending from blocking (obliterating) the R in “RESERVE" on the top front of the bill. 

The gutter error doubles / splits the O in “United States of America” .  Unlike the assassination and Civil War, the error crosses and spares President Lincoln  and finally terminates in a slightly wider bottom gutter creating an almost double letter A in the “DOLLAARS”. It also spares the 1969F. During the late 1960’s, the country was divided by the Vietnam War. 

Beside the gutter defect the following issues were noted: 1. The wide reverse left Margin created a Print thru of the 5 2. The bill is a few mm oversize in length

The upper right front half of the bill has a slight up turn and is hence out of the normal rectangular shape. Hence the front of the bill is asymmetric. 

The upper right serial # has a subtle downward curve and is hence not linear. All the corners and edges are intact.The Bill appears crisp. Unlike most bills with circulation folds, this blank gutter fold error is devoid of ink on the front and hence enhances its value. 

On the Reverse the gutter does not impact on the imprinting but has created a VERY WIDE LEFT margin. One can assume all the rest of the reverse of the bill’s printing is slightly compressed giving rise to the very wide left border.  

The reverse is of course out of rectangular shape with the left side tilting slightly upward.  The gutter on the reverse is fully imprinted vs the gutter on the front which lacks any printing and is hence blank (white) . 

What also enhances this fine error bill is that it bears the name of George Shultz. He died at 100.  He was one of America’s most famous and respected public servants. From Marines, to Secretary of State under Nixon, served in the Cabinet with Reagan, advisor to Bush, Obama, many advisory panels and corporations.  

He left an indelible mark on history and a high bar for American Politicians to follow.  Secretary of the Treasury was but a small part of his famous career.  You have Lincoln and Shultz. Both great Americans.  This white gutter on the LINCOLN bill is very symbolic of the division of the United States during the Civil War. The intact reverse shows how we came back together as immortalized by the Lincoln Memorial. This bill, displayed reminds us of times that tested our souls and that a country divided against itself cannot survive. 

WE SURVIVED, the two leaders on this bill will be forever remembered. Most Secretaries of the Treasury were only that. Shultz left an indelible mark on the History of our Country.  

Also of note is that the serial # is almost O 12345 but not in that order, missing a 2 but with 3 zeros. 

This bill, hence, has importance to numismatics and HISTORY buffs. 

It is nearly unc./crisp condition.
