Antique RARE Stieff STERLING floral REPOUSSE SERVING SPOON


The term REPOUSSE refers to the old European silversmith process of embossing a pattern by hammering from the back. This process dates from the early 19th century. 


This estate piece was acquired in the 1960’s by an avid collector/dealer. 


It has an elegant chrysanthemum/rose pattern.  


There is a simple 1920’s old style single “W” engraved on the back. 


It is in excellent condition for any age. It bears the Sterling & Stieff  Hallmark within a rectangular recessed box on the reverse. 


It weighs 4 ounces / 114 grams and at 92.5 / sterling has a scrap value in today's spot of at least $75.00. 


It’s size affords it a utilitarian value of being used as:


1. Serving spoon for peas, little onions, carrots, artichokes, chopped veggies, etc.

2. Oversized soup spoon

3. Gravy spoon

4. Chopped salad server

5. Pudding / gelatin server 

6. Or ??????? To a collector 


This statement piece is 8.5” x 1 7/8”.
