Mary, Jesus, and Angel –8.5x11" Print

Mater Amabilis means Loving Mother or Lovable Mother, and we see that illustrated here as Mary, along with the Guardian Angel, attends to the sleeping child. Presumably it’s Jesus, because of the halo, but it could be any child because when they are that little, sleeping in a rocker, they are all gifts from Heaven. This is a perfect picture for a bedroom. Mater Amabilis is one of the titles of Mary in the Litany of Loreto, and this is one of the exquisite embroideries illustrating that litany. They were based on the drawings of Ezio Anichini, a devout Italian artist. He released them in 1912, and they show the Art Noveau style of that era. They are graceful and beautiful, and as embroideries, they are regarded as masterpieces of beauty, design, and execution. We spent a lot of time restoring this image, removing the flaws from the photograph and lightening it a bit to bring out the richness and contrast of the colors and the precision of the needlework. This image looks fantastic in a light oak frame with a cream matte. Standard size.
