1949 Vintage Nursery Story Book with Moveable Parts An Uncommon Find DESCRIPTION  ~  seaside*collectibles is pleased to bring you this charming book from the 1940s entitled: LITTLE BLACK SAMBO ANIMATED! ANIMATED! by Helen Bannerman. Animations by Julian Wehr. Published by Duenewald 1949. sq. 8vo, pictorial boards. Near Fine. A MOVEABLE SAMBO illustrated in color by JULIAN WEHR and featuring 4  moveable plates done in full color by artist Julian Wehr American. Artist, paper engineer. [b. 1898 - d.1970]  Creating over 30 animated books, Wehr was known as the "American Master of Animated Books." CONDITION  ~  NEAR FINE. Binding corners had some bumps and light chipping, otherwise the lithograph illustrations remains crisp, clear and bright. So to discourage copying, only snapshots are provided in this listing - we assure you that the images in the book are bright, sharp and clear.  Small department store sticker (MAY COMPANY) inside back coverc and name written neatly inside the front covers. All motion paper tabs are in perfect working order and appear to have not been used, like new as are the pages inside the book - delightfully clean.  About the Artist. Wehr's designs were all operated by tabs, which moved various parts of the illustration. While most tabs in early movables were located at the bottom of the pages and operated by pulling down, Wehr's designs were more flexible than traditional "pull-the-tab" books. In Wehr's books, the tabs are located at the bottom and the sides of the images, and are operable by moving the tabs back and forth along slits in the pages.
