Scheelite Information :
Scheelite is a calcium tungstate mineral,It is an important ore of tungsten. Well-formed crystals are rare and are occasionally fashioned into gemstones when suitably free of flaws. Large, faceted scheelites are among the most beautiful of all collector’s gemstones. They occur in many colors and fluoresce very brightly. If cut properly, scheelites can have tremendous fire.
Scheelite itself belongs to the scheelite mineral group, which also includes powellite, stolzite, and wulfenite, and forms a series as the W end-member with powellite, the molybdenum (Mo) end-member.All these materials are rarely seen as faceted gems.Nevertheless, collectors prize faceted scheelites for their rarity and beauty.
Named in 1821 after Carl Wilhelm Scheele (1742-1786).(The Manual of Mineral Science, p426). The Swedish chemist and apothecary, proved the existence of tungstic oxide in the mineral in 1781. His discovery in 1781 was probably his call to fame, where a mineral was named after him. This discovery was about the composition of the mineral Tungsten, later called Scheelite (Calcium Tungstate).
