Our friend Therese is the Novice Mistress in this picture, which means she is a mentor to the novices (in the white veils). All the nuns are gathered around the pool on wash day. In the larger picture there are perhaps 30 nuns, but we think this way of cropping it really personalizes it and gives it a Norman Rockwell-like arrangement. We love the little old lady nun in the upper right hand corner!
In the full picture, just to the right, there is a novice hamming it up. She’s making some joke and she is a complete blur. We love the expression on Therese here. She’s looking over at the jokester. In her eyes we see that she was considering the propriety of the joke, and her lips are starting to form a smile.
This is, of course, a perfect picture for a laundry room, or anywhere you’d like to be reminded that working together can be a happy thing in God’s Grace, and that doing our chores is a way of holiness. It is part of St. Therese’s Little Way!
This is another one of our Exclusive Photo Restorations. We don't see anyone else in the world using cutting edge high tech on these old Catholic Saint photos.
