In 1853, Gillinder came to America & worked for New England Glass Company making paperweights.  He settled in Philadelphia in 1861 where he bought a glassworks which he renamed the Franklin Flint Glass Works.  His two sons eventually joined the firm which then became Gillinder and Sons.

The Celery Vase was created circa 1875.  It is made of non-flint frosted glass and clear glass.  The three frosted images of nude Greek Goddesses are featured on three facets of the six sided vase.  The other three arched panels contain the clear daisy & button design.  The body of the vase rests on six log feet with an oak leaf & acorn decorated base.
