Vintage original 8x10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from one of the great masterworks of German silent cinema, DIE NIBELUNGEN: SIEGFRIED, produced in 1924 and directed by Fritz Lang. The cast includes Paul Richter, Gertrud Arnold, Margarete Schon, Hanna Ralph.
The image features a close shot of the beautiful Princess Kriemhild (Margarete Schon), sister of Gunther, the King of Worms, holding a large sword as a man kneels at her feet. It is in very fine condition with a tiny chip at the center of the bottom border. The areas of discoloration on the right side occured during the printing process when this photograph was printed from the original German glass negative and are not spots or flaws on the still itself. This film is celebrated for the intricately-patterned costumes and set design which can be appreciated in this shot. Rare.
Die Nibelungen is a duology of silent fantasy films created by Austrian director Fritz Lang in 1924--Die Nibelungen: Siegfried and Die Nibelungen: Kriemhild's Revenge. They were co-written by his then-wife Thea von Harbou, based upon the epic poem "Nibelungenlied," written around AD 1200.
