Additional Information: Edward F. Hartley (1849-1887) was a photographer in Jacksonville, IL until 1875, when he moved to Chicago. Hartley Photography Studios was started in 1876 and was located at 309 Madison, Chicago, Illinois. The Photography studio published many advertisements in the Chicago Tribune, one stating "Hartley’s Studios are the largest and finest in the United States, and nothing but first-class work allowed to leave the studios." After Hartley's death in 1887 (age 44), his brother continued to manage the studio. The studio remained at its location until 1909, when the address system in Chicago changed. Some of the photographs from Hartley Studios can be found at the Glessner House Museum in Chicago today.
